Sticky and senseless we are waiting, heads down and anxious from our misguided tours in summer heat.
In the background a cricket clicks, fingers twitch and polite conversations stretch like rubber bands.
People gather from the corners-- faces and colours, backpacks filled with half-squashed sandwiches and un-used inner city maps.
The walls are peeling too, softly, like the socks from our water-thin heels. In the air is the waiting. The girl in hiking boots laughs gingerly at a poorly told joke.
